DT 770 PRO: 32, 80 or 250 ohms?

Liner notes 1 min read

Beyerdynamic sells the DT 770 PRO in three impedances, and the question lands in our inbox weekly. The short answer: choose by the thing you plug into, not by the number.

32 Ω — for phones and portables. The easiest to drive: loud from a phone, a laptop, a camera. If your DT 770 will never sit near a headphone amp, this is the one. Ships with a 1.6 m straight cable.

80 Ω — the flexible middle. Loud enough from a decent laptop or console output, noticeably better damped than the 32 Ω when it does meet an interface or amp. This is the version studios buy by the box, and the one we recommend when you are unsure. 3 m coiled cable.

250 Ω — for amps and interfaces only. From a phone it will sound quiet and thin; that is not a defect, it is Ohm's law. Driven properly it is the tightest and most controlled of the three — the critical-mixing choice. 3 m coiled cable.

All three share the same closed-back design, the same replaceable velour pads, and the same spring-steel build that survives decades. Every wear part is in our Accessories department, and Dekoni's upgrade pads for the DT range are in Earpads — which is exactly why a DT 770 is a twenty-year purchase.
