The cheapest way onto Austrian Audio's ceramic-capsule ladder: a large-diaphragm cardioid condenser built in Vienna, with the OC818's capsule know-how distilled into a fixed-pattern mic. The Studio Set ships with the shockmount and pop filter, so there is nothing else to buy before the first take.

It's a first serious vocal mic — voice-over, home-studio vocals, acoustic guitar. One pattern, no pads, no filters: fewer switches to set wrong.

It's a condenser, so it needs 48 V phantom power from your interface. Loud sources are fine — it takes 148 dB before complaining.

Our take
The OC18 gets you a quieter mic with pads and low-cut filters; the OC16 gets you the same Vienna build discipline for a lot less. If you record one voice at sensible levels, the OC16 is the honest pick — spend the difference on your room.
