Beyerdynamic DT 100

The broadcast workhorse that has sat on studio heads since the 1960s, still built in Heilbronn and still entirely modular: pads, cushions, cables — every piece swaps out with basic tools. Broadcasters keep fleets of them alive for decades because nothing about the DT 100 is disposable.

The closed shells isolate well and the tuning is mids-first and old-fashioned. Voices sit exactly where an engineer wants them; nobody has ever called it exciting.

Buy it for spoken word, fleet standardisation and total serviceability. For modern full-range monitoring, the DT 700 PRO X is the better tool — but the DT 100 simply refuses to become obsolete.
