The open-back DT 990 in its easiest form: the 32 Ω Edition, wound to play loud straight from a phone, tablet or thin laptop jack. Same wide stage and energetic top end as the studio versions, in home trim — straight cable, gentler clamp.

Open means open. It leaks sound outward and lets the room in, which is the price of the airy presentation. Wonderful alone in a quiet room; antisocial on a train. Velour pads and every wear part replaceable, per Beyerdynamic tradition.

Our take

The only classic DT 990 that makes sense without an amp — plug into whatever, done. If a headphone amp or interface is already on the desk, the 600 Ω Edition or the PRO 250 Ω holds the bass in noticeably better grip.
