An over-ear with active noise cancelling that runs wireless or wired, in three finishes — Pink, Brown, Ivory — chosen by someone who thinks of headphones as worn objects rather than black plastic. This is Edifier's lifestyle ANC over-ear.

The job is commuting, open offices and travel: cancelling on for the bus, cable in when the battery runs flat or you sit down at an in-flight screen. That wired fallback is the quietly important spec — an ANC headphone without one becomes a paperweight at the worst possible moment.

It is not a monitoring tool and does not pretend to be; for tracking or editing, look at the HD 280 PRO or DT 770 PRO instead.

Our take

Of Edifier's two ANC over-ears on our wall, the W800BT Pro is the budget pick and the ES850NB the nicer object — the finishes are most of the argument, and for a gift they are a good argument.
