Edifier's most basic desktop speakers: plug into the computer, turn up, get on with the day. There is no feature list to speak of, which at this end of the range is its own kind of feature.

Edifier's budget boxes have always shared one virtue — cabinets and amplification built past their price — so they stay composed at sensible desk volume instead of turning brittle.

Buy the M2280 for an office machine, a workshop PC, a first desk. Buy almost anything else on this wall once sound quality itself becomes the shopping criterion.

    Our take
Competent, forgettable, cheap — sometimes that is exactly the brief. When it isn't, the MR3 is one shelf up.
