The step between computer speakers and real monitoring: a powered nearfield pair with flat-leaning tuning, proper wood cabinets and a front headphone jack with volume where you can reach it.

Each side carries a 4-inch woofer and a 1-inch silk-dome tweeter, driven by 42 W between them. The front knob doubles as a mode switch — monitor for working on sound, music for enjoying it — and the balanced TRS inputs plug straight into an audio interface, with RCA and aux covering everything else.

No Bluetooth, and that is deliberate: this is a wired desk tool, sold as a pair. If you want wireless for the living room, the R-series wooden boxes are the right shape instead.

Our take
Of the MR family this is the value pick: the MR3 gives up cabinet volume, the MR5 charges properly for its extra driver. Feed it from an interface rather than a motherboard jack and it punches well above its shelf.
