Erica's collaboration with Hexinverter brings the Mutant drum lineage — Eurorack circuits with a deserved cult following — into one desktop analog drum machine. Every voice is a real analog circuit with its own hands-on controls, and the whole box is voiced for techno that hits rather than ticks.

MIDI and clock I/O let anything sequence it, and the audio outs feed a mixer the way a serious drum machine should. Built in Riga, and it sounds like it means it.

This is the flagship of our drum-machine shelf, priced like one. It earns that with a physical weight to the hits that digital boxes cannot fake.

Our take
The analog weight is real — the kick moves air in a way the LXR-02's digital voices do not. If the budget stops sooner, the LXR-02 is the smarter buy; if the kick is the career, buy this.
