Furutech’s reference 3.5 mm end. α (Alpha) OFC conductors, rhodium plating over silver, and a machined barrel that takes cable up to Ø5 mm. This is the plug we fit on our own top-shelf portable builds.

Rhodium does not sound “better” than gold — it wears better. On a plug that gets mated daily, that is the whole argument.

Our take
Furutech barrels: finger-tight only. Overtightening the set screw is the one way to hurt this plug.
