The MP flagship: a micro-ridge tip on a boron cantilever — a stylus profile normally found on serious moving coils, in a body any MM phono input can drive. That is the entire pitch, and it's a good one: moving-coil-level groove tracing without a step-up transformer, an MC stage, or any change upstream.

Micro-ridge tips sit deep in the groove and read parts of the wall earlier styli never touched, so clean records are mandatory and careful alignment doubly so. Half-inch mount on a conventional headshell.

When the tip finally wears, the JN-P500 stylus renews it — flagship performance with consumable economics no moving coil can match.

Our take
Cross-shop it against low-output MCs like the Hana SL: the Hana needs an MC stage, the MP-500 doesn't, and when styli wear the Nagaoka swaps a tip while the MC ships off to a retipper. On running costs alone, the MP-500 wins the decade.
