Forty years on stages, unbeaten. The HD 25 isolates like tape over the ears, survives abuse that destroys lesser hardware, and every single part — pads, capsules, headband, cable — is replaceable.

Comfort is adequate, sound is punchy and forward, and the split headband with the rotating capsule lets you flip an ear to cue. Nobody buys an HD 25 for luxury; they buy it because it refuses to die.

Our take

If you never flip an ear to cue, the HD 25 Light gives you the same drivers on a simpler headband for less. Everyone else buys this one, wears it for a decade, and replaces the pads — we keep those on the shelf.
