Sennheiser's open studio reference for the mixing generation. Two included pad sets genuinely retune it — fabric pads for mixing decisions, velour pads for producing — and the light frame is built for whole working days. Imaging tuned for decisions, not flattery.

130 Ω runs happily from a proper interface output. Open back means a quiet room is part of the deal: this is a mixing tool, not a tracking headphone.

The pad swap is not a gimmick — the two tunings sound clearly different, which makes this two headphones in one kit.

Our take
Against the HD 400 PRO this is the more comfortable, more versatile tool, and the pad-swap tuning trick is real. Against the HD 600 at similar money: the 600 is the nicer single listen, the 490 the better workday companion. Mixing for hours, take the 490.
