The living-room open-back: relaxed, warm, comfortable for whole albums. 50 Ω runs from anything, and both a long 6.35 mm cable and a short 3.5 mm cable come in the box.

It leaks like every open headphone — a private-room listen, not a commuter. Within those walls it is the easiest recommendation we make for people who want music to be pleasant rather than analysed.

Our take
The HD 560S tells you the truth; the HD 599 tells you a nicer story. Mixing or comparing gear, take the 560S. Reading a book with a record on, this is the one — and the pads are on our shelf when they wear.
