The cheapest way onto Shure's sound-isolating shelf: a single dynamic driver, the same over-ear cable routing as the pricier SE models, and a seal that hushes buses and open offices surprisingly well.

The tuning is warm and easygoing — commuting, podcasts, background work music. Nobody buys an SE112 for the last word in detail; they buy it because it isolates like earphones costing far more and shrugs off daily abuse.

One honest limit: the cable is fixed. When it eventually fails, there is no swapping it — the SE215 is where detachable cables begin.

Our take
If you can stretch to the SE215, do — the detachable cable alone pays for itself the first time a cable dies. If you cannot, this is the best isolation at this end of the shop.
