The stage vocal microphone — the one the word "mic" means in most venues. Cardioid dynamic capsule, a spherical grille that doubles as a crash helmet, and a design that has not needed changing since 1966.

It exists for live vocals: predictable feedback behaviour, a presence lift that carries a voice over a band, and proximity bass you learn to play like an instrument. It also survives falls, beer and being used as a hammer, which is most of the legend.

Dynamic, so any mixer or interface drives it — no phantom power involved. Bring your own XLR cable and stand.

Our take
Home recordists often reach for it out of loyalty; on a desk an MV7X reads a spoken voice better. On a stage, loyalty is correct — nothing at the price has ever unseated it.
