The second edition of Beyerdynamic's closed studio flagship. The Tesla driver carries over in re-engineered form, and the big practical change is efficiency: the MKII runs properly from an interface or laptop headphone jack, no dedicated amp required.

The job is the same as the original's — tracking, editing and mixing where the room is loud or a mic is live — with the same Heilbronn build and detachable-cable serviceability.

Between the two editions on our shelf, this is the less demanding companion. The original's 250 Ω build remains the pick for console headphone buses and desktop amps; for everyone else, the MKII removes the last excuse.

Our take

The one we'd take home of the two 1770s — same family sound, far less fussy about what drives it. Go original 250 Ω only if you live on a big console or a proper headphone amp.
