Beyerdynamic's open-back reference in its second edition — the MKII tuning softens the treble edge the original was scolded for while keeping the Tesla driver's detail. This is mixing and mastering territory: open shells trade isolation for an honest, roomy stereo image.

Two pad sets ship in the box and genuinely change the tuning — analytical and balanced — so try both before forming opinions. Cables are detachable mini-XLR, and it's made in Heilbronn to be serviced, not binned.

At 250 Ω it needs a real headphone output. An interface with a strong headphone stage works; a phone does not.

The open half of the 1770/1990 pair: tracking happens on the closed 1770, mixing happens here. If your treble tolerance is low, this MKII tuning is the first 1990 we'd hand over without a warning label.
