Sennheiser's current open-back studio workhorse, sitting between the HD 400 PRO and the HD 490 PRO in the range. Open, spacious presentation for mixing and editing, with the fatigue-free weight this line is known for.

It is the single-tuning tool of the family: one pad set, one balance, no decisions to make. The 3.5 mm cable with 6.35 mm adapter goes straight into an interface.

Open back leaks both ways — this is for a room of your own, not for tracking next to a live microphone.

Our take
Cross-shop this against the HD 490 PRO before committing — the 490 adds the second pad set with a genuinely different tuning and does not necessarily cost more. Take the 480 when you want one tuning, chosen for you, and nothing to fiddle with.
