Shure Motiv MVL

An omnidirectional lavalier condenser on a 3.5 mm TRRS plug. Clip it to a collar, plug it into a phone's headset input, record. Omni pickup means head turns do not change the level, and clothing placement is forgiving.

It fixes the single worst thing about phone video — voice recorded from arm's length. Interviews, pieces to camera, lecture capture: anywhere the speaker matters more than the scenery.

TRRS is phone headset wiring. Modern phones without a jack need their USB-C or Lightning headset adapter, and cameras with plain 3.5 mm mic inputs need a TRRS-to-TRS adapter — check what you are plugging into first.
