The white MicroFreak with the gooseneck mic in the box and the 16-band vocoder ready to go — everything the standard Freak does, plus your voice as an oscillator. The digital multi-engine and analog filter are unchanged; the vocoder is an addition, not a trade.

Robot choirs are the party trick. The useful version is subtler: vocoded pads under a mix, rhythmic speech textures, the sequencer driving the carrier while you talk over it. The poly-aftertouch capacitive keys and mod matrix carry over from the standard model.

Standard MicroFreak owners shouldn't rebuy — the mic sells separately and the firmware is free. This edition is for first-time buyers who already know they want the voice.

Our take
Buy this over the standard Freak only if the vocoder is a certainty, not a maybe — otherwise the black one now and the mic later gets you the same result and lets you decide in your own time. Either way you end up in the same place.
