Eight of Audient's ASP console preamps in a rack unit, feeding ADAT so they land in any interface with an optical input. Channels one and two add the Retro section — HMX harmonic drive and IRON transformer loading, dialled in from the front panel — for when a source needs weight rather than transparency.

This is the box that turns a two-preamp interface into a drum-tracking rig, or adds eight channels to an iD44 or EVO 16 for full-band sessions.

Be clear on what it is not: an interface. It needs one with ADAT in on the other end of the light-pipe.

Our take
Plenty of expanders do eight clean channels; the two Retro channels are why this one. A touch of HMX on kick and bass prints the thickness people chase with plugins, on the way in.
