Four Class A preamps, each with an analogue insert point — a hardware compressor or EQ can sit in the path before conversion — plus ADAT in both directions and a monitor section that replaces a separate controller: talkback, main and alt speakers, cut and dim.

It is the centre of a serious small studio. Four mics on the box covers most sessions; the 20-in total is there when expanders join over the light-pipe.

If you never track through hardware inserts and never switch speaker pairs, you are paying for capability you won't use — the iD14 is the saner buy.

Our take
The inserts are the sleeper feature — printing a compressor on the way in is a workflow the plugin era forgot. Add an ASP800 down the optical and you have a twelve-preamp rig that embarrasses some consoles.
