The little keyboard that runs entire rigs. Thirty-two slim keys, a proper polyphonic step sequencer and arpeggiator, and the connection set that made the original a cult object: CV/gate for the modular, MIDI in and out for the vintage boxes, sync for the drum machine, USB-C for the laptop. Everything talks to everything.

The mk2 refresh keeps the classic current without disturbing what worked. It powers from USB or a 9 V supply, so it sits in the middle of a hardware table with or without a computer attached.

Slim keys are for sketching and sequencing, not performance — nobody gigs a piano part on a KeyStep. As the brain of a small synth setup, it still has no serious rival at the price.

Our take
Every hardware desk we know has one of these somewhere, usually doing the most important job in the room. Buy the 37 if you write with two hands; buy this if the sequencer is the point.
