The DT 990 for amped desks: 250 Ω, better damped, the classic Beyerdynamic open-back character — big stage, energetic top end, fast bass. It wants a real amp or interface and rewards one; from a phone it stays half asleep.

All parts replaceable, velour pads standard, 3 m coiled cable. A mixing-room fixture since before plugins were a thing, and still bought by the pair by studios that know why.

Our take
The lifted treble is a tool — hiss, sibilance and edit clicks have nowhere to hide — but it exaggerates, so cross-check low-end calls on the more even-handed DT 880 PRO. Detail microscope: yes. All-day easy listen: no.
